Jesus in 1 and 2 Kings

In 1 and 2 Kings we can see Jesus in many ways.

First of all, the 2 books themselves are called: Kings, and Jesus can be seen here as the King of kings and Lord of lords. All the righteous kings represented Jesus the King and all the unrighteous ones - the false king, or as the Bible calls him - the prince of this world. we can see the battle between good and evil, Judah and Israel, righteous and wicked kings, true and false prophets, very well presented.

Second, 1 & 2 Kings start with the story of Solomon, the wisest king of Israel. He himself talked about God's wisdom (Jesus) in his books - Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. Proverbs chapter 8 specifically speaks about God's wisdom as a Person and we can definitely see Jesus in this picture.

Finally, the parallel between the building of the Temple and the building of the New Testament Church is obvious. We know Jesus as the Head of the Church - His Body, and the builder of every part of it (Matthew 16:18). So, in Kings we can see Him as the Temple Builder (1 Kings 5-8).

To the Pharisees, Jesus said later (I paraphrase): "Destroy this Temple, built with hands through My wisdom, and I will build another one, made without hands". The first Temple was also built through and for Him (everything in the Old testament was a shadow of what was coming in the New, the redemption and Kingship of Jesus being the central theme throughout the Bible), and it was the stone and mortar temple, while in the New Testament Jesus was building a spiritual Temple, which temple are we all - His Body of believers.

God Bless You!

Nikola
