The prophet Ezekiel is a unique one, so specific and different than all other prophets. He was a visionary, who moved so deeply into the realm of the Spirit, in the area of revelations, visions, angel visitations, etc. The dimension of the seer can be seen in him so clearly. Do you remember, when Jesus came, one of the first things He said to some of His disciples in the beginning of His ministry was: “I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”. Therefore, we can see Jesus in the person and spiritual identity of this Old Testament Prophet.
Another striking similarity is the way God the Father identified both with the term Son of Man. No other prophet from the Old Testament had been called in this way by God, with Daniel being the only exception (only once called like that, while Ezekiel called more than 80 times).
Jesus identified Himself as the Son of Man. Interesting, ha? I believe by this expression the Lord wants to demonstrate everything that He has in store for us – the sons and daughters of men. Jesus, being 100% God, came to live as 100% Son of Man, so He can show us how to live for God as He did.
Finally, Ezekiel was the prophet of God’s Glory. He saw so much of God’s Glory in the different visions the Lord gave him. Well, Jesus, ”Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.”
”And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.”
