When we pray for other people, the Bible calls that Intercession. Do you know who is the greatest Intercessor? Of course – the Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Timothy 2:5 says about him:
“there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
Even right in this very moment, Jesus is praying for you. You don’t believe it? Look at Hebrews 7:25
“Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.”
Well, would you want to also be a good intercessor? Did you know the Lord is searching for such people, who would stand in the gap and pray (intercede) for the other people, so they too can know the Lord personally?
Do you remember for instance, how the Lord opened your heart, so you could receive Him as your Lord and Savior? He saved you because someone prayed for you. Who? Right – you guessed it – Jesus. Now Jesus would like us to pray that God be merciful to the people that need Him. Let’s pray that the Lord protects these people, so the enemy can do them no harm, and so the Lord can draw them to Himself. The Lord seeks such people who have a heart for intercession indeed. Ezekiel 22:30 confirms that. You can read it for yourselves.
One of the most famous Bible verses on intercession is 2 Chronicles 7:14
“if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
See? If there are people who pray for the others, the Lord can save and heal even our whole nation. There is actually a Bible story in the book of Exodus 32:7-14. There you can see how the Lord had decided to destroy the whole Hebrew nation because of their terrible sins, but Moses managed to change God’s mind, because he stood in prayer in between the Lord and the people.
There is a gap between God and the people who do not know Him. God stands on one side of the gap and the people on the other. The intercessor’s job is to stand somewhere in the middle, stretching out to God and the people at the same time, thus becoming a bridge between the two. That’s what Moses did.
When we intercede for the other people, we must pray like Jesus. The best way to be sure we are praying like Him is to pray with the Word of God. That’s why we must read and study the Bible, so we can be more successful in our prayers.
Do you want us to pray even right now? First let’s pray for the kids in our nation and then for our national leaders, because that is very important before God, “who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:4)
“Dear Lord, let all the children in our nation come to know You as their personal Lord and Savior. Let them serve You all the days of their life. Let them always praise, worship and thank You. Let them have a heart full of compassion, prayer and intercession. Let them be hungry for You and let them completely fulfill Your will for their life.
And now Lord, we also pray that You bless our nation. Give our leaders wisdom. Bless also our spiritual leaders. Lord, draw the people to Yourself. Let them know Your salvation, healing, deliverance and fullness of joy.
Lord, please make us good witnesses for You, while You are doing miracles which confirm Your Word! Amen!”
