23rd week - Jesus Son of God! Probably the greatest positive change will come in our life a Christians when we realize our sonship in Christ.
“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” Romans 8:15 (KJV)
This is one of the most unique verses in the Bible. It is indeed, because it shows our present identity in God. In order to explain exactly what I mean by this, let me show you the same verse in the Living Bible:
“And so we should not be like cringing, fearful slaves, but we should behave like God’s very own children, adopted into the bosom of his family, and calling to him, “Father, Father”.
1. Before we knew the Lord, we were slaves to sin and death. We were in total bondage to the devil and the powers of hell. Now, when we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, the power of sin and death was broken over our lives, and we should now act not as slaves to sin and its effects, but as masters over it (Romans 8:1-2).
2. Even as newborn Christians, most of us still act and relate to God as fearful slaves of His. We try to obey Him and do His will from a slave position, filled with not the right kind of fear. YES He is our Master, and YES we should fear Him, but as children fear and respect their father (and since He is our Father, that places Him in the position of being our Master too). See what is written here – we are adopted into His family (not enlisted in His plantation), and therefore we can call Him: Father, Father. That is a totally different perspective. We are His sons and daughters, and as such, we voluntarily give ourselves (our spirit, soul, mind, emotions and body) as a living sacrifice to serve Him all the days of our life (Romans 12:1-2).
So, let us remove the wrong slave mentality, filled with the demonic type of fear, and let us replace it with being His slaves, fearing and respecting Him from this new perspective – as His sons and daughters.
