| Jesus death was absolutely necessary. Ever since Adam and Eve fell, there was a need for redemption of the whole human race. No animal sacrifice could do that, as animals were used only as substitutes till the time the greatest sacrifice would come - the sinless, spotless lamb of God - Jesus Himself. The Bible says all sinned and fell short of the Glory of God. It also says sin brings death, and the only punishment for sin is death. So, God had to find a man without sin, to become the sacrifice and receive sin in His body, so all the other people can be saved. You know the rest of the story. That reminds me of the person that was bitten by a poisonous snake and was just about to die, when the ony possible resque came - a blood from another man, who had already been bitten by the same kind of snake, and which blood had already formed antidote for that poison. It's that simple! Somebody have to pay the price and in the case of the human race, that somebody was our Lord Jesus and exactly His death was what was needed to take away sin by its root.
