Jesus in Zechariah

Jesus in Zechariah.

The book of thi prophet of God is filled with symbols and types of Jesus. The name Zechariah itself means: Jehovah remembers, and thus it is connected to our Lord. Now to the specific symbols:

1. The Branch - Zechariah 3:8 Prior to that, the prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah have called Jesus: The Branch of the Lord (Isaiah 4:2), and The Branch of David (Jeremiah 23:5; 33:15). Now Zechariah, by inspiration, gives Jesus the name: The Branch.

Well, in the book of John 15:1-6, we see that Jesus calls us branches too, Him being the main One - The Vine, whereas His father is the Husbandman, taking away the branches that do not produce, and purging each one that gives fruit, so they can give even greater fruit. Isn't that a wonderful picture?

2. King, Priest & Temple Builder - Zechariah 6:12-13. In the above line of thought, Jesus as the Branch, can be seen here as One, Who is ruling on His throne (King), as One, Who is a Priest on His throne (Kingly Priest) and as One, Who will build the Temple of the Lord and will grow and expand His Kingdom. That rule and expansion will be so great, that in chapter 14:9, Zechariah says that: "the Lord shall be King over all the Earth"

3. The Shepherd, Who was Smitten - Zechariah 13:7. The third big symbol, which we can see Jesus in Zechariah connected with, is that of the Shepherd of the Lord, Who was to be smitten. Some time before Jesus was taken in the garden of Getsemany, He quoted again this verse, warning His desciples to beware not to fall away.

Yes, He was smitten, even more - crucified, but oh, the glory of His resurrection, His revelation to His Body - the Church and His ruling and reigning as King od Kings and Lord of Lords for ever and ever! Amen!
