Jesus on a donkey

Jesus on a donkey. Three out of the 4 Gospel writers (Mark 11:1-8; Luke 19:29-35; John 12:14) share the story of Jesus triumphal entering Jerusalem in such a way, that one can be left with the impression that Jesus rode on a very young colt, because all three Gospels speak of ONLY ONE DONKEY - A LITTLE COLT ACTUALLY. And because the colt was so young and never anyone had ridden it before, some people even use this to say that Jesus used an unbroken ("NEW") donkey to ride on, e.g. that goes to tell us that we Christians, should always use NEW things, such as a New car, New house, etc. And though I don't have any problem with that, neither do mind that we use NEW things, I would like to point out that these passages above can not be used to back up such statements.

The Gospel of Matthew gives us the full picture of what really happened:

"As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, "Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her.

Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, tell him that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away." This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: "Say to the Daughter of Zion, 'See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and a colt, the foal of a donkey.' " The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road." (Matthew 21:1-8)

According to the Prophecy from Zechariah 9:9 and logically, as the movies about Jesus present it, Jesus must have ridden on the old donkey, the young colt going along with its mother.

God Bless You!

Nikola
