The book of Joshua is a book specifically revealing the Lord as being a mighty warrior, leading the children of Israel into battle, for obtaining their full inheritance. Even before his time, while the people of Israel were in the wilderness, the Lord gave them the revelation that He is a Man of War (Exodus 15:3). And as long as we have an enemy, He always will be our Commander in Chief, our Captain, our Leader in battle, and our Victor. Praise the Lord!
The Lord Jesus Himself appeared to His servant as the Commander of the Lord’s army: “ Now when Jos-hua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to Him and asked, "Are you for us or for our enemies?" "Neither," he replied, "but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come." Then Jos-hua fell face down to the ground in reverence, and asked Him, "What message does my Lord have for his servant?" The commander of the Lord's army replied, "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy." And Jos-hua did so.” (Jos. 5:13-15).
Now the purpose of all battles is the inheritance. Each and every one of us has an inheritance from the Lord. This inheritance includes all the physical and material blessings He has for us (health, prosperity and well being), but most of all, our inheritance is the destiny the Lord wants us to fulfill, so we can bring Glory to His name. Our destiny is to establish His Kingdom on this Earth. Our destiny is to completely fulfill God’s will, purposes and intentions for our lives, in the generation we are living. Our destiny is to fight the good fight of faith and win the prize of the high calling of God, thus teaching the evil principalities and powers the Lord’s wisdom. That’s our inheritance!
Well, Jesus is our Inheritance Giver. Ephesians 1:3 and 14 sys: ”Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ… Who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession—to the praise of His glory.”
