31st week: Sacred Heart of Jesus Men always tend to look on the outside; God always looks on the heart
“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.” Ezekiel 36:26-27 (KJV)
In order to do something God’s way, we must have His heart. If we do not have God’s heart in something, and yet we do it, this is only an outward activity. Humanisticly speaking, that is perfect, yet, the Lord is more concerned not in our actions, but in what led to these actions – our heart attitude, our motives, our purpose. We can do good deeds on the outside and be full of pride and hidden agendas on the inside.
The Bible says: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9).
That is why the Lord wants to take away the stony heart from us and give us a heart of flesh – a heart full of His love and compassion, His will and purposes, His glory and power. Then and only then we will be fulfilling God’s laws and commandments in the right way – not because we have to, nor because of fear, but because our heart will be pulsating with the rhythm of His heart.
