19th week - Sweet Jesus - SLOW TO CRITICIZE! Do not criticize the dirty feet of someone, if you are not ready to wash them
“He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.” John 14:4-5. (KJV)
“And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.” Luke 22:30-31 (KJV)
It is amazing how quickly we can criticize someone that does not fit our concepts and ideas about something. It’s also amazing how prejudiced we can be towards others. Most of all, we are so uncompromising towards the mistakes of others. It seems that everything can displease us, make us angry, discontent, touchy, resentful, or even revengeful. You know why is that? Because we are lacking God’s true love! (1 Corinthians 13:4-8).
Jesus is our greatest example of the expression of God’s love in which we must all function all the time. Let’s see just one example: Jesus knew that Peter would deny Him three times, even to the point of cursing. Yet, instead of criticizing him, Jesus did three incredible things: First, He washed Peter’s feet, which was such an act of humility, having in mind that Jesus was the King of kings and Lord of lords. Second, He prayed for Peter. Can you imagine God to pray for someone like us? Isn’t that a contradiction of terms, which again shows the highest level of humility? And third, He spoke of the future destiny of Peter – being an encourager and strengthener of his brethren. Wow!
May we learn from this and also be extremely slow to criticize and extremely quick to pray and serve the others. May we be full of love towards the Lord and our neighbors, always having the heart and mind of the Lord towards them, instead of the heart and mind of the demons and the flesh.
