Deuteronomy

Jesus in Deuteronomy

Deuteronomy features Jesus as The True Prophet that the Lord promised the children of Israel – one like Moses, Who would lead them and guide them in the right way. Moses himself prophesied about Jesus in Deuteronomy 18:15-19 ”The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to Him. For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.” The Lord said to me: “What they say is good. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in His mouth, and He will tell them everything I command him. If anyone does not listen to My words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account.”.

Wow! Can you imagine how Moses felt when prophesying about this great Prophet the Lord was talking about? The Bible says many of the great people of the Old Testament so much desired to see the New Testament times and the new things the Lord was planning to do, yet, the Lord reserved all this for us. Hallelujah!

The second amazing picture of Jesus in that book is that of The Rock. Chapter 32 pictures Jesus as the Rock three times, in verses 4, 18 and 31:

”He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He… You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot the God who gave you birth… For their rock is not like our Rock, as even our enemies concede.”

The New Testament confirms that the Rock Moses was talking about was exactly Jesus: ”and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.” (1 Corinthians 10:4).

May the Lord be the Rock in our lives too! Amen!

God Bless You!
