Habakkuk
Jesus in Habakkuk
In the first chapter of his book, the prophet Habakkuk is crying out to the Lord for help concerning the injustice that seemed to prevail during his days. We can see the Lord replying the prophet by addressing the biggest challenge of the day – Babylon.
“… ruthless and impetuous people, who sweep across the whole earth to seize dwelling places not their own… they are a law to themselves and promote their own honor…They deride kings and scoff at rulers.” (Hab. 1:6-7, 10)
Isn’t this so actual for our generation too. We can see so many individuals and groups today, who think themselves as gods, and who are “a law to themselves”, ruining everything in their path.
Well, I have news for you – The Lord is Greater than Babylon and the Lord is the Judge of Babylon. Revelation 17 and 18 contribute more to that idea. And in the context of the Lord’s answer to the prophet, He told him in chapter 2 verse 4:
“See, he is puffed up; his desires are not upright — but the righteous will live by his faith”
Yes, there is pride and arrogance in our world, yes there are unrighteous desires and passions, yes there are people who have forgotten they are just people, but the Lord is the Judge of all these and we, as God’s people, overcome them BY FAITH, so we can also see Jesus here as theRewarder of true faith in a world full of selfishness and lusts of the flesh of all sorts.
God Bless you!
