Jesus lamb of God

Jesus Lamb of God. Why did Jesus identify Himself with a Lamb? For several reasons:

1. One of the first instances where God the Father promises to send the Savior was to Abraham, after he “sacrificed” his only son Isaac, for God. Prior to that, Isaac had asked his father Abraham: “The fire and wood are here, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”, to which Abraham replied: “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son”. Well, God did provide a lamb for the redemption of the whole world – Jesus.

2. The lamb was the Passover sacrifice, symbolizing the coming out of the chidren of Israel from Egypt, in the same way Jesus provided for us a way to come out of the kingdom of darkness and into His wonderful kingdom of light. (Exodus 12:3-5)

3. During the Law dispensation, the lamb was the sacrificial animal used the people and by the priests alike, which is a symbol of our partaking of the acrifice of Christ on a daily level. (Exodus 29:38-39 and Numbers 28:4).

4. The lamb is also a symbol of discipleship, Christ being the greatest example of ours in that area (Luke 10:3).

5. The Lamb has been a symbol of Christ throughout the Scriptures, such as Isaiah 53:7; John 1:29, 36; 1 Peter 1:19; Reveltion 5:6-13; 6:1, 16; 7:9-17; 12:11; 13:8, etc.

Because of these, the Lamb is a perfect representation of what our Lord Jesus Christ did for us on the Cross.

God Bless You!
