Jesus Pictures

The Jesus picture section is not about pictures in the sense of drawings, paintings, graphics, photographs, clip art, portraits and the like – for such, please visit the Jesus Art Section. Other words that would better describe this section would include Jesus titles, Jesus analogies, Jesus types or Jesus symbols. The Bible is full of them. Actually, my point in creating this Jesus pictures section is to prove that Jesus is the center of the whole Bible. Everything in the Word of God points to Jesus and God’s redemptive plan through Him. Jesus is the Alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end, the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2 and Revelations 22:13). He Himself testified about that when He said: “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life”. (John 14:6). During the whole period of the Old Testament, the Lord constantly spoke Divine Words through the mouth of His holy prophets, concerning the coming Messiah – the long awaited King of kings and Lord of lords. God spoke about Jesus’ supernatural birth, the place where He was to be born, the attempts of the devil to destroy Him, and his failure to do so.

God spoke also about the life, ministry, calling, mission, and Cross of Jesus, as well as about His eventual resurrection and Lordship over all. God also spoke about Jesus’ character, Jesus gifts, Jesus heart of love and compassion and Jesus fruit. There were all Jesus pictures. Why?

You know that every word forms a picture in the mind of the hearers. When somebody says the word “dog” to you, you don’t picture the letters D – O – G in your mind. Instead, you immediately see the picture of a dog, as you imagine it. That’s why, Jesus pictures is a very appropriate title for this section, because God the Father spoke all these words about Jesus during the course of the Old Testament, and when the whole picture was completed (e.g. when the all Word spoken was ready to receive embodiment – Galatians 4:4), that Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:14). The same Word was with God from the very beginning of time, because the Word was God actually (John 1:1). Revelation 19:13 expressly calls Jesus The WORD – Jesus pictures.

Have I convinced you that Jesus is the center of everything the Lord says or does? People of all tribes, tongues and religions try to find God in their own way and according to their own understanding, and many of them search deeply, to find eternal life and happiness, yet… One can never find that apart from JESUS. There is no technique, no method, no formula. The Jews at the time of Jesus were searching diligently the Scriptures to find the way to God, but Jesus told them: “And the Father Who sent Me has Himself testified concerning Me. You have never heard His voice nor seen His form, nor does His Word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one He sent. You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about Me, yet you refuse to come to Me to have life.”

See? All things in the Bible are meant to be Jesus pictures – to lead us to Him, and not to a religion, ritual, institution or formula. The Lord is not interested in dead rituals and sacrifices – He is interested in a living communication with living persons – us. That’s why, when Jesus was about to enter His Earthly phase of life and ministry, He said to God the Father: “ Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You prepared for Me; with burnt offerings and sin offerings You were not pleased. Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about Me in the scroll— I have come to do Your will, O God.’” (Hebrews 10:5-7)

WOW, this is so powerful! I can go on and on, but I think this is enough to show that whole Word of God is focused on revealing God’s will to redeem mankind through the life and work of Jesus Christ, as well as to establish His eternal kingdom upon the Earth through the ministry of the Holy Spirit in Jesus – the Head, and the New Testament believers – His Body. Hallelujah!

Below I have attempted to study the Jesus pictures in the whole Bible, book by book. A great help was Kevin J. Conner’s book: ”Interpreting the Symbols and Types”, which I recommend, because it has very good charts and tables with every possible symbol and type in the Bible, so if you are a studier of the Word and that area interests you, this book can be a great starting point for you to begin your deeper research. Please click on a Jesus pictures link of each book to find out how it reveals Jesus in a symbolical and analogical form. Also, please visit the THE FOUR IN ONE GOSPEL OF JESUS and Why buy it, to see 7 very good reasons and benefits for having the book.
