Sheep Shepherd Jesus – BIGGER THAN YOUR BLESSING Devotional
27th week: Sheep Shepherd Jesus!. First, the Lord is concerned about the man, and then about the man’s ministry.
“And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God, the possessor of heaven and earth, That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:” Genesis 14:22-23 (KJV)
The Lord Himself is the One that blesses us with every spiritual, material and financial blessing. But, we must be bigger than the blessing, in order to be able to take it and not be corrupted by it. Many people pray for promotion and blessings and the Lord withholds them at the time being. That’s the Lord’s mercy and grace. He knows best what we can receive with grace and what we still can’t.
Yes, the Lord wants us to be blessed, but in every blessing there’s a higher purpose. The blessing is not just for the sake of us having that particular blessing. We are the Lord’s servants, and His is everything we are and own. We take from His and give back to Him in return. The Lord has never up until now blessed somebody with the following conditions: “Here’s this three story house for you. I want to bless you. Now go, find yourself hired servants for everything and you lie down in bed and watch TV all day long”.
You’ll say: “Of course we know that!” But you’d be surprised how many people dream exactly about that. Hey, we are sent with a mission on this Earth, we are ambassadors of the Lord’s Kingdom, and whatever we have, do or say, it is for the purpose of glorifying our Master.
Abraham was bigger than the blessings the Lord bestowed upon him, and that’s exactly why the Lord chose him – because He knew that Abraham would be well able to hold the blessing and use it for spreading the Lord’s name everywhere.
